If you've ever taken an art class, you've most likely heard of symmetry, golden ratios, rule of thirds, and the whole concept really is that we, as humans, find beauty of mathematical symmetry. It's why nautilus shells are beautiful and a "good" photo doesn't always put the subject in the middle.
Our staff were having a very engaged conversation about making fun lists and the idea of ranking Asian celebrities came up, but we are way too biased with our biases and our stans to make any list not-so-hyper-crazy opinionated, and when we tried, we found that no two lists were the same.
So we corralled our brains and decided to use a non-biased approach to ranking humanity's classical understanding of beauty, so welcome to our "Mathematical Beauty" spotlight!
We’re diving into the fascinating world where high fashion meets high-level geometry. To keep things fun and engaging, we’ve selected 20 of the most stunning stars (ten men and ten women) from Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The "Golden Rule" of the Face
In classical aesthetics, "mathematical beauty" often refers to the Golden Ratio (which Google tells us is 1.618). Historically, artists and architects used this ratio to create perfect balance. For faces, we look at:
The Rule of Thirds: The distance from the hairline to the brow, brow to nose-tip, and nose-tip to chin should be equal.
The Rule of Fifths: The width of the face should be exactly five "eyes" wide.
Symmetry: How closely the left side of the face mirrors the right.

Beauty Beyond the Numbers
While we used math to create this just-for-fun ranking, it's important for us to note that this was just a fun exercise of applying mathematical formulas to people's external features. But we all know that human beings are way more than that. It's the charisma, the personality, the little dimples, the little mole that we love, those unique characteristics are what make us fall in love with others. Geometry might define a "perfect" face, but it's our connections to one another's souls that make humans beautiful to each other.
Who is your favorite on the list? Did the math surprise you, or was your favorite already at the top?
