Imagine walking into a huge stadium filled with thousands of glowing lights, loud cheers, and the exciting energy of a giant party. Usually, you might expect to see a huge team of background dancers doing wild flips, or a singer wearing a crazy costume while fire shoots out of the stage. But instead, the bright spotlight lands on a single girl standing behind a cool vintage keyboard. She smiles warmly at the crowd, her fingers start dancing across the keys, and suddenly the whole room fills with a sound that feels like a warm hug mixed with a late-night drive through a glowing city. This is the world of Ink Waruntorn, a musical powerhouse from Thailand who decided that she did not need to follow the usual rules to become a massive superstar. Known to her friends, family, and millions of dedicated fans as just Ink, she has spent the last several years completely rewriting the playbook for what it means to be a pop singer in Asia. Instead of just singing tracks that were handed to her by big corporate bosses, she rolled up her sleeves, studied music like a true champion, and brought back a cool retro style of electronic music that has kids and adults all over the world dancing along with smiles on their faces.

Long before she was selling out stadiums and winning giant trophies, Ink was just a little girl growing up in the busy, colorful city of Bangkok, Thailand, where she was born on February 23, 1994. Her journey with music did not start because she wanted to be famous, but rather because her home was always filled with awesome tunes. Her dad absolutely loved music, and whenever they would go on long family road trips, he would blast classic songs from legendary bands like The Beatles and The Carpenters. Sitting in the back seat, young Ink would listen closely to how the beautiful voices blended together, absorbing the magic of a good melody without even realizing she was learning the building blocks of pop music.

Around the mid-2000s, the music business in Thailand was going through a massive change, as big record labels started putting together cute, high-energy pop groups made up entirely of teenagers. Because Ink was naturally super charming and looked great on camera, she got noticed by talent scouts after appearing in a couple of popular music videos. Before she even turned fourteen, she was officially signed to Kamikaze, a legendary record label that was famous for creating the biggest teenage idols in the country.

The label placed her in a brand-new, four-girl pop group called Chilli White Choc, where she was the absolute youngest member of the squad. Suddenly, instead of just worrying about middle school homework, Ink was learning complicated dance routines, recording sugary songs like Chatsanova, and doing big interviews on television. It was a dizzying world of glitter, bright outfits, and shouting fans, which gave her an incredible, fast-paced education on how to handle herself on a big stage. But even though it was an exciting adventure, Ink started to feel a little bit trapped because the big bosses at the record company made every single decision for the girls, from what they wore to exactly how they sang. Ink knew deep down that she wanted to be a real musician who could make her own creative choices, and she also wanted to make sure she finished her education. In a move that shocked a lot of people in the industry, she made the brave choice to step away from the group and the label right when they were becoming super popular, choosing to head back to a normal school life so she could figure out who she truly wanted to be as an artist.

This break from the spotlight was not a goodbye to music, but rather a secret training mission. After finishing high school, she worked incredibly hard and passed the tough entrance exams to get into Chulalongkorn University, which is the oldest and most famous college in all of Thailand. Instead of studying something easy, she picked a super challenging program focused on classical opera singing. For four years, Ink traded in her teenage pop songbooks for dramatic Italian and German opera pieces, spending hours every single day learning how to breathe correctly, hit incredibly high notes, and project her voice across giant theaters without even using a microphone. It was like going to a boot camp for singing, and it turned her voice into a powerful, flexible instrument. She was so well-liked and respected on campus that she was even chosen to be the university drum major for a huge, historic college football match, and she eventually graduated with amazing grades and high honors after putting on a spectacular final singing recital.

Right around the time she was finishing college, the movie world came knocking on her door. A famous independent film director named Kongdej Jaturanrasmee was looking for a lead actress for his new movie called Snap, which was a sweet and quiet romantic drama about a young girl reunited with her high school crush. The director needed someone who could look totally innocent but also show deep, quiet emotions without saying a word, and he found exactly what he was looking for in Ink. The movie came out in 2015 and became a huge critical hit, traveling to international film festivals and making people realize that Ink was no longer just a kid from a teenage pop group, but a mature, talented artist. Working on the movie also reminded her how much she missed singing, and she even got to help work on the music for the film.

The Thai music scene had changed a lot while Ink was away studying, and cool new independent record labels were starting to pop up. One of the best new labels was called Boxx Music, and they loved the idea of letting artists make their own creative choices. They saw something truly special in Ink and teamed her up with a super talented music producer named Boompump. Together, they started playing around with a totally different sound that combined her incredible, classically trained voice with the cool, glowing beats of 1980s synth-pop. They released her very first solo single called Insomnia near the end of 2015, and it blew up like a firework. The song was filled with glowing electronic beats and a bouncy bassline, and Ink sang it with a soft, cozy, and slightly sad voice that perfectly described what it feels like to be awake at night thinking about someone you miss. It hit the number-one spot on the radio charts almost instantly and became a massive anthem for young people all across the country.

After the giant success of Insomnia, Ink and her team knew they had found a magical formula. They spent the next few years releasing a string of hit songs like You? and Cloudy, which always had the coolest retro music videos and songs that talked about the funny, messy, and sweet parts of modern dating. What made everyone fall in love with Ink was how incredibly real she felt; she never felt like an act put together by a marketing team. When she went on tour across Thailand, she did not just stand there and sing; she would actually play her own big electronic keyboard right on stage, proving to everyone that she was a real-deal musician. She also became a major fashion trendsetter, known for wearing bright, fun outfits that looked like a cool winter dream, matching the clean and polished feel of her awesome songs.

Soon, her success crossed over the ocean and went global. In 2020, even when the world was going through a tough time and concerts had to stop, her music kept people happy all over the internet, and she won the huge award for Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in South Korea, which is a massive deal in the pop music world. Ink kept trying new things, and in 2021, she lent her sweet voice to the official Thai version of a super popular animated movie brought from China to Thailand by T&B Media Global called The Legend of Hei, playing a cute and brave cat spirit. The very next year, she went back to acting in a spooky psychological thriller film called Faces of Anne, where she gave an amazing, intense performance that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

"Ink has a charm and level of emotional connection that captured the delicate balance of Xiao Hei’s fierce spirit and adorable vulnerability, delivering a performance that anchors the entire Thai localization." - Bhak Tanta-Nanta, Deputy CEO, T&B Media Global

Her musical journey reached an all-time high when she released a full-length album that swept the music awards, winning trophies for both Best Female Artist and Album of the Year. To celebrate, she put on massive, sold-out arena concerts where the stage looked like a neon wonderland, complete with giant horn sections, classical string players, and awesome special effects. Looking at her stand in the middle of a giant stadium with thousands of fans waving glowing lightsticks and singing every single word with her, it is easy to see how far she has come. Ink Waruntorn showed everyone that you do not have to follow a boring template to be a star. By staying true to herself, studying her craft, and choosing a sound she truly loved, she turned her childhood musical dreams into a beautiful, real-world fairy tale that is still keeping the whole world dancing.
