In the vibrant expanse of Thailand’s booming contemporary art scene, few figures occupy as many intersecting worlds as Note Panayanggool, known professionally as NOTEP. Her evolution from a teenage reality television sensation to a pioneering electronic artist, DJ, sound healer, and environmental activist has been a deliberate, slow-motion unfurling of a singular philosophy. This month, the release of her newest single, “Radio,” serves as a transmission from this multifaceted interior world, marking the first signal of her upcoming EP, PAKARANG. The project is a manifestation of NOTEP’s lifelong commitment to the belief that the human body and the natural world are not separate entities, but two mirrors facing each other, reflecting the same ancient, mineral rhythms.

Born in Chiang Mai and thrust into the national spotlight in 2011 through the reality competition The Star, NOTEP’s early years were defined by the frenetic energy of commercial pop. However, the constraints of that world eventually gave way to a deeper, more experimental calling. In 2017, her work with the electro-pop duo XO809 began to signal a shift toward sound design and visual aesthetics that favored atmospheric depth over commercial accessibility. By the time she founded her initiative “High On Your Own Supply,” her identity had fully coalesced.

This platform became the bridge between her artistic output and her environmental advocacy, aiming to redirect audiences back to their own essence through mindfulness and an appreciation of the Earth. Her activism and belief system are the heartbeat of her music. Whether collaborating with Greenpeace Thailand, the UNDP, or Coral Gardeners, she approaches the ecological crisis through the lens of reconnection, treating art as a medium for the change she wishes to manifest in the world.

The new single “Radio,” released strategically on Earth Day 2026, acts as a luminous entry point into this ethos. Produced via Platoon, the track is built from a foundation of ambient textures and airy electronics that mimic the pulse of the sea. NOTEP’s signature vocal experimentation creates a soundscape that feels both ancient and futuristic, a quiet refusal of the noise that often characterizes modern life. The track explores the concept of tuning in, not to an external signal, but rather to a frequency that has always resided within. It is an invitation to stop fighting the current and instead recognize the structures, the harmonies and the frequencies we already vibrate. The title of the upcoming EP, PAKARANG, is the Thai word for coral, a choice that is deeply symbolic. Coral is the skeleton of the ocean, a living architecture built from the same minerals that form the human body. In NOTEP’s worldview, to protect the coral is to protect ourselves and to listen to the ocean is to listen to our own humanity and our own biology.

This philosophy is brought to vivid, tactile life in the visual accompaniment for “Radio.” Filmed off the coast of Koh Tao Island, an idyllic retreat NOTEP seemingly has adopted as a second home, a place where she has spent significant time working on sustainability projects, the video features her aboard a traditional Thai long-tail boat. The imagery is a woven tapestry of sustainable visual language, featuring a couture dress by designer Eric Tobua crafted entirely from reclaimed soda can tops. The skirt and hair details, woven by NOTEP herself, utilize ghost nets and discarded buoys recovered directly from the ocean. This choice transforms marine debris from a symbol of destruction into a garment of resilience. It serves as a physical representation of the EP’s core message: that nothing in the natural world truly disappears and that it only changes form. The ocean and the body operate on this shared principle of transformation, where nothing is lost and everything is constantly becoming something new.

NOTEP’s work stands as a testament to the power of integration. She refuses to silo her identities, allowing her music to inform her activism and her spirituality to guide her sound design. In a world that often rewards rapid consumption and forced growth, PAKARANG and its lead single “Radio” offer a different rhythm, one that is slow, resilient, and deeply rooted in the environment. By blending oceanic philosophy with experimental pop, she creates a space where the listener can recalibrate.

Her efforts represent a radical act of attunement, suggesting that the most powerful form of activism is to help people remember our special relationship with the Earth. As she moves forward with this new project, NOTEP continues to use her platform to bridge the gap between sound and soul, ensuring that her music transcends the realm of simple entertainment and becomes a form of medicine for a world in need of healing.
