When you think of a Thai travel vlogger, you might imagine someone who has spent their whole life with a backpack glued to their shoulders. But for Panupat Sukalyarak, better known to millions as Bas Go Went Go, the journey to becoming Thailand’s premier travel storyteller didn’t start at a terminal. No, sir, it started on a stage with a guitar in hand.

With over 1.8 million followers on Facebook and 1.6 million on YouTube, Go Went Go isn’t just a channel; it’s a lifestyle empire. But how did a professional musician transform into a man who gets paid to explore the furthest corners of the globe? Grab your passport and a snack; we’re diving into the delightful, well-researched, and slightly obsessed world of Bas Go Went Go.

The Man Behind the Lens: From Rockstars to Road Trips

Bas is often described by fans as the "friend you want to travel with." He’s energetic, authentic, and possesses a "can-do" attitude that makes even a missed flight look like a plot twist in a great movie.

Born and raised in Thailand, Bas spent his youth dreaming of seeing the world, but like many of us, life got in the way. Before he was a digital nomad, he was a creative soul navigating the Thai entertainment industry.

What’s in the Brain? (Education & Background)

Bas is a proud alumnus of the Faculty of Communication Arts at Bangkok University (BUCA). If you ever wonder why his videos look like high-budget documentaries or why his storytelling hits just the right emotional beats, it’s because he spent his college years mastering the art of media and communication.

However, his first claim to fame wasn't travel, it was music. Bas was the guitarist for the popular Thai indie-pop band Better Weather. If you were a teen in Thailand during the late 2000s, you likely hummed along to their hits. He spent years touring, living the "rockstar" life of late nights and concert halls.

The "Quarter-Life" Crisis That Started It All

By the time Bas hit his late 20s, he had achieved what many would consider "success." He was a musician, an actor, and a businessman running a bar and restaurant business called the 20Something Group.

But there was a problem: he was working so hard to make money to "eventually" travel that he had no time to actually go.

"I reached a point where I realized I was working to buy happiness later, but I wasn't happy now," Bas shared in a recent interview.

When he turned 30, the "age milestone" hit him hard. He realized that if he didn't start traveling now, when he had the energy and the health, he might never do it. He didn't want to be 60 years old with a fat bank account and knees that couldn't climb the Dolomites.

The Birth of "Go Went Go"

The name itself is a clever play on the English irregular verb Go-Went-Gone.

  • Go: You decide to go.

  • Went: You are currently "ve-en" (a Thai pun on the word เว้น (Wen), meaning "to take a break" or "gap").

  • Go: You go again!

The philosophy was simple: travel, come home to rest and work, and then head back out. He started the page in 2016 as a personal diary, originally just to prove to his friends (who mocked his terrible photography skills) that he could actually take a decent picture.

From "Terrible Photographer" to Multi-Millionaire Vlogger

Bas admits that when he started, he was "obsessed." He knew that to make travel a career, he couldn't just be "good," he had to be the best. He spent months studying camera gear, color grading, and YouTube algorithms.

The hard work paid off. Within five years, his hobby turned into a powerhouse business.

Reports suggest his media company generated over 85 million Baht in revenue over a five-year span. He transitioned from a one-man show to leading a team of over 30 people, even recently taking his entire office on a "company outing" to Mount Fuji, Japan.

Major Accomplishments

  • 1.6M+ Subscribers: A staple of Thai YouTube.

  • The "Friend Effect": He is credited with pioneering the "Vlog style" in Thailand that feels like traveling with a close friend rather than a tour guide.

  • Business Savvy: He successfully bridged the gap between "influencer" and "CEO," running 20TV and various other media ventures.

  • Author: He has shared his mindset on turning passion into a profession in various speaking engagements and books.

Fun Facts You Might Not Know

  • Doraemon is his Muse: Bas has cited the gadget-filled robotic cat as an early inspiration for his love of discovery and "magic" in the world.

  • The Shutterbug Struggle: His friends used to tell him not to take their photos because they always turned out blurry or unflattering. He practiced every single day for months just to spite them.

  • Home Office Goals: He recently revealed his "Smart Home Office," a stunning 24-million Baht loft-style space that serves as the headquarters for Go Went Go.

  • The "50 Country" Club: He has traveled to over 50 countries, but his favorite remains Italy (specifically the Dolomites), though he has a soft spot for the chaos and beauty of Pakistan and Iceland.

Why We Love Him

Bas isn't just showing us pretty sunsets; he’s showing us that it’s okay to "reset" your life at 30, 40, or whenever you feel the spark. He handles travel mishaps with a smile and reminds his audience that "Money is just a bonus; the profit is the happiness you feel while doing the work."

Whether he’s eating street food in Chongqing or trekking through the snow in Italy, Bas Panupat has proven that the best way to find yourself is to occasionally get lost.
